NEW DELHI: Lenovo’s Motorola is all set to launch its Moto Z2 Play smartphone in India today. The handset has already been introduced in the US and is also the first in the ‘Z2’ series to hit the market. In addition to the Z2 Play’s India launch the company will also be making it available for pre-bookings starting today.
Motorola will also be live streaming the Moto Z2 Play smartphone launch online. Interested users can view the launch live from the Motorola India’s YouTube video. The event starts at 12PM IST. The company has listed the smartphone on its India website but without specifications or price. It however, has mentioned some of the pre-booking offers.
One of the offers lets users buy the Moto Z2 Play by giving Rs 2,000 up front and paying rest of the amount over the course of 10 months with 0% interest. Moto Z2 Play will also be able to get their hands on the Moto Armor pack, which comes with ‘protective accessories to keep you worry free’ says the website. The third pre-booking offer deals with the Z2 Play’s Moto Mods, details of which have not been given.
The smartphone has been subject of rumours and numerous leaks in the past, all of which gives us a fair idea of how the device might look like and what specifications it will include. Recently the company too started teasing the device in several videos.
While in the US the handset costs Rs $499 (roughly Rs 32,100), it might cost a few extra bucks in India. This could bring it in direct competition with the upcoming OnePlus 5. The device is also rumoured to come priced in the same bracket.
Launched in Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour options, the Moto Z2 Play flaunts a metal unibody design and is sleeker as compared to its predecessor. Like before, the smartphone has round edges and a physical Home button which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. The rear panel houses the camera module and magnetic pins that are used to connect Moto Mods with the smartphone.
The Z2 Play has a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display of 1080×1920 pixel resolution. The display is made scratch resistant with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box, the smartphone is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM. It offers 32GB/64GB of internal storage, with support for microSD cards.
The Z2 Play features a 12MP rear camera with laser and dual auto-focus, as well as LED flash. There’s also a 5MP front camera with Moto’s first dual CCT flash for selfies and video calling. The smartphone offers 4G VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C as connectivity options. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which is a bit smaller when compared to the 3,510mAh battery of the Z Play.
Along with the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola launched a few Moto Mods as well. These include Moto Power Pack, which can add an extra 2,000mAh battery capacity to the smartphone and the Turbo Power Pack Moto Mod, which adds an additional 3,490mAh battery capacity to the smartphone. Other Mods includes the Wireless Charging Style Shell, JBL SoundBoost 2 Moto Mod and the Moto GamePad mod.
