NEW DELHI: Huawei recently launched two new flagship smartphones at the MWC 2017 conference in Barcelona, Spain – P10 and P10 Plus . Both feature 4GB RAM as standard, while there’s another higher-end variant of the P10 Plus that has 6GB of RAM.
But even with that, it seems that the company isn’t too keen on making smartphones with that much RAM. A Huawei executive has hinted that 6GB of RAM isn’t necessary for handsets.
In a recent Weibo post, Huawei’s P-series chief executive Lao Shi mentioned that the company’s smartphones perform just fine with 4GB of RAM. He further said that 4GB RAM/128GB internal storage is a better combination than 6GB RAM/64GB on-board storage.
Shi added that besides 4GB of RAM, the operating system of the smartphone should be optimized in an efficient manner. He also gave an example of how Apple’s iOS is optimized so it requires less amount of RAM. According to him, the increase in RAM raises the price of the smartphone ‘exponentially’.
According to Shi’s post, 6GB RAM is included in smartphone just for psychological satisfaction. For those unaware, Huawei already has handsets such as P10, Mate 9 Pro, Honor 8 Pro and Mate 9 Porche Design that come with 6GB of RAM.
